Fred was born on May 18, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Fred, Sr. and Erma (Madison) Barnes. On February 5, 1997 in South Bend, Indiana he married Cathy (Major) Barnes.
Along with his loving wife, Cathy, Fred is also survived by his daughters, Catherine (Michael) Jackson and Sonji (Jose) Perez both of Elkhart; son, Ronnie (Amber) Cooley of South Bend; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; niece, Moniece Thomas (Bryan) Johnson and their children Jalon and Wesley; nephews, Donald & Teresa Perry and their daughter; Ralph & Cindy Thomas, Keith Madison, Glen Madison and family; special aunt, Edyth Green; special cousins, Carol Yeskey, Cheryl Benway, Pam Thorpe and several others; special nephews, Edward Mroz, Harold “Mike” Toner and several others; and special friends, Carlos and Jackie Woods. One sister, Virginia M. Jones and one brother, Robert Barnes, both preceded Fred in death.
Fred was a member of “Tough Riders” motorcycle club and a special friend of founding member Eugene Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016 at Palmer Funeral Home –River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 11 AM Friday until time of services at the funeral home.
