WRIGHT, Elizabeth Staley, 95, passed away on May 16, 2022, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 15, 1927, the eldest child of Joseph and Elizabeth Staley. When Betty was an infant, her family moved to Charlottesville, her mother's hometown, then to Richmond in 1934, where she graduated from Cathedral High School in 1943. After graduation, she went to work for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, where she met the love of her life, her future husband, Chalmer "Whitey" Wright, who spent his career at the Federal Reserve. Betty and Whitey were married at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond on April 22, 1950 and moved into their family home in the Fan in 1955. Their home would be the center of her family life for 62 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; her sister, Ruth Staley; and her brother, Roger Staley. She is survived by her sister, Rosemary Keech; eight children, Carol Morshedi (Samad), Rebecca Hickman (Dick), Kathleen Wright (Jonathan Ostrowski), Mary Lou Haase (Steve), Tom (Joey), Joe (Teri De Leon), Celie Boswell, Peggy Heeke (Tom); 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Sheri Morshedi Shafie (Omead - Naz, Ali), Ahmed Morshedi, Elizabeth Hickman Sauer (Edmund - Graham, Teddy), Julia Hickman Ryan (Matthew - Wells, Tagg), Jamie Hickman (Brigid), Spencer Wright (Victoria - Max, Nate, Emma), Allie Wright, Mary Wright, Joseph Wright, Teresa Wright, Michael Wright, Rosie Wright, Thomas Wright, Libby Boswell, Katie Boswell, Sarah Heeke Stanley (Rhett - Everett), Louise Heeke, Charlotte Heeke, Rebecca Heeke.
In addition to raising eight children and providing loving support for their families, Betty was an active volunteer, helping any organization her children joined, as well as having her own civic interests, which included the Fan District Association, serving as being a chief judge for the Richmond Electoral Board, assisting the mothers' morning out program at Woodland Heights Baptist Church, the Shepherd Center, collecting for the American Heart Association. Betty held many titles, in her mind the most important was "child of God."

The family will receive friends at Bliley's Funeral Home, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Thursday, May 19, from 3 until 7 p.m., followed by a Christian wake at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict Catholic Church on Friday, May 20, at 11 a.m., followed by interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cristo Rey, Catholic Charities Refugee Support Fund, or St. Benedict Catholic Church.
