Samuel Gooch Lucas age 93 of Athens, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Mr. Lucas was born October 8, 1922 to W.R. Lucas and Era Gooch Lucas.

Services will be Saturday, February 13, 2016 11:00 a.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Charlie McAdams officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Lucas was a member of Nebo Church. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He was a member and Past Master of Athens Masonic Lodge #16.

Preceded in death by his parents, W.R. and Era Lucas; one brother, Charlie Lucas; two sisters, Flora Powell and Katie Shiflett.

Survived by his wife, Marie M. Lucas of Athens; two sons, Larry Earl Lucas and wife, Patty and Samuel Mark Lucas both of Athens; two grandchildren, Stephanie Moran and husband, Brent of Elkmont, AL and Krystal Thomas of Athens; three great-grandchildren, Jerrod Pettus and wife, Stephanie of Killen, AL, Nathan Moran and Hannah Moran both of Elkmont; two great-great-grandchildren, Logan cone and Lucas Taylor Pettus both of Killen, AL; one sister, Emily Gord of Toney, AL.
