Born October 29, 1921, in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Samuel R. and Minerva (Grove) Norris.
He was married to the former Wanda G. Snyder 55 years ago, on December 24, 1941.
Surviving are his wife, at their home; two children, the Rev. Victor S. Norris of Kittanning and Susan D. Fleming, Hustontown; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Also surviving are a brother, Samuel G. Norris of Shippensburg; two sisters, Thelma Price of Rockhill Furnace and Mary Price, Shirleysburg R.D.; and a cousin reared in the Norris family home, Mason Grove, Indianapolis, Ind.
One brother, Coyle Norris, preceded him in death.
Mr. Norris was a member of the Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, Mount Union R.D.1, where he was a former trustee. He was also a member and past master of Cromwell Lodge #572, Free and Accepted Masons, Orbisonia; life member and past commander of Blue Juniata Post 5754, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mount Union; and a member of Madden-Wennick Post 518, American Legion, Orbisonia. A graduate of Mount Union High School Class of 1939, Mr. Norris worked in construction throughout his life and retired in 1983 from Hickes Construction Inc., Alexandria. He also had been building caretaker of the Orbisonia Housing for the Elderly. Mr. Norris, who was active in the community, was a member and served as vice president of the Orbisonia Borough Council. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Threater of Operations.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, located along Route 747 south of Mount Union, with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating.
Interment will be in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.D.1 Friends may call at the Martin R, Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, today (Monday), from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, from 9-11 a.m., then at the church, from 1 p.m. until the hour of the services. A Masonic memorial service, conducted by Cromwell Lodge #572, will be held at 8:30 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions, in remembrance of Herman L. Norris, may be given to Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, R.D.1, Box 1191, Mount Union, Pa. 17066.
