Jerry Wayne Burke, 77 of Stokesdale, NC, was born on November 25, 1938 and went to have breakfast with his Maker at age 77 on February 10, 2016.
Jerry Burke, of Simpson Road, Stokesdale, NC., known to his friends as "Red" and to his family as "Papa", Jerry served his country in the Navy 1956 to 1961. He owned many gas stations in Greensboro in earlier years, and then retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company in Greensboro, NC in 1999 after 30 years of employment.
Mr. Burke enjoyed going on cruises with his wife, Cora, and spending cherished time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Clara Burke and Charlie and Mattie Overly.
He is survived by his sister, Cathy L. Burke from Liberty and Connie Roland from Durham. He married Cora Lee Burke on January 26, 1968. Jerry and Cora enjoyed a long marriage of 48 years in which they have two children, son Michael Burke of Madison and son Wayne Burke and daughter-in-law, Tammy of Stokesdale. He had eight grandchildren; Joshua Burke, Ashley Gray, Rexanna Murphy, Nikki Wittenbrook, Brandi Faircloth, Ariel Burke, Cody Burke and Jade Burke. He had seven great-grandchildren: Summer Gray, Zach Gray, MacKenzie Gray, Skylar Gray, Kyle Gray and Carter Burke and Chase Burke.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Palestine United Methodist Church at 2954 Ellisboro Road, Stokesdale, NC.
