Jimmy Wayne "N5UJB" Arterberry Sr. 77, of Lawton went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at home with his loving family by his side.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at Post Oak Mennonite Brethren Church, Indiahoma, with Pastor Gary Castleberry, Pastor Leonard Presley, and Pastor John Webb officiating.
Burial will follow at Post Oak Cemetery under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.
Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Post Oak Mennonite Brethren Church.
Jimmy was born in Indiahoma on May 4, 1938, to Nichodemus "Benny" and Lorean (Farmer) Arterberry. He graduated from Cache High School and then Jimmy enlisted with the Oklahoma Army National Guard serving his country from April 19, 1955 until July 24, 1956.
Jimmy was a member and former president/test administrator of the Lawton Fort Sill Amateur Radio Club, and his call sign was N5UJB. He was a member of Post Oak Mennonite Brethren Church and former chairman of the board of trustees and church council. He was also a troop leader of the Indiahoma Boy Scouts of America. Jimmy worked at Arthur Manning State Fish Hatchery in Medicine Park from 1958 until 1968, was a ranch hand for Frank Rush at Craterville Park and the Rocking R Ranch in the 50s, a welding Instructor at Great Plains Vo-Tech in the 70s, and he worked at Treasure Lake Job Corps until his retirement in 1982.
He enjoyed ham radios, auctions, church activities, was a collector of everything, watching wrestling and old westerns, eating Indian Tacos, Fry Bread, spending time with his friends, all of his relatives and especially his grandchildren.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Beatrice "Sue" Arterberry, and daughter, Kathy D. Daniel, both of the home; sons: Jimmy W. Arterberry Jr. of Medicine Park; and Ricky D. Arterberry of Indiahoma; sisters: Minnie Rhodes of Cache; Dodie Farrell of Lawton; Linda Carol Carter of Chickasha; Liz Adamson of Lawton; stepbrother, Frankie Barkley Jr. of Texas; and stepsister, Penny Grooms of Rush Springs; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Howard and Susie Roach of Cache; Harley Roach of Indiahoma; Arlene Wilson and Linda Roach of Indiahoma; and Virgie Kassanavoid of Cache; six grandchildren: Vanessa Huff, Steven Arterberry, Ricky Arterberry Jr., Joshua Arterberry, Brook Robello, Zack Daniel; 11 great grandchildren: Faith, Caleb, Zoey, Lincoln, Jackson, Aspynn, Hinley, Kixx, Kendall, Kameron, and Savannah; and many other family members and friends.
Jimmy was preceded in death by: his father and stepmother, Benny and Addie Arterberry; mother and stepfather: Lorean and Frank Barkley; son, Terry D. Arterberry; brother, George W. Arterberry; sister, Joyce Arterberry; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Flora (Niyah) Roach and Melvin "Poker" Roach; brothers-in-law: Stacy Kassanavoid, Melvin "Boot" Roach and James Wilson; and sister in law, Alice Roach.
