Anthony Louis Mello, was born March 4, 1924 in Stockton, California and passed peacefully on Febuary 6, 2016 while residing at the Livermore VA-CLC Unit.

Tony was inducted into the US Marine Corps on February 19, 1943 in San Francisco, was trained as a sharpshooter and BAR man, serving in the 3rd Divison, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Battalion.

He served in the South Pacific including at Guadacanal and Guam where he was seriously wounded on July 21, 1944. He was honorably discharged March 2, 1945 from Mare Island.

On August 13, 1946 Tony married Virginia Collier in Reno, Nevada.

Tony enjoyed the company of veterans and was a Life Member of the following organizations: Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. He also served on several color guard assignments, including at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella, where he will be laid to rest on February 23.

He was also a volunteer for twenty-three years at the Livermore VA, assisting those in the Community Living Center, especially the Alzheimer's patients.

Tony enjoyed camping, fishing, horseback riding, and back packing in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

He is preceded in death by siblings, Mary, Louie, Tiofolo and Manuel and one granddaughter.

Tony is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Virginia, his daughter, Annette; son-in-law, Marcus; son, Marvin; as well as one granddaughter; three great grandchildren; and his sister, Lucy.

While he was a loving husband and father, Tony was especially proud of being a patriotic Marine: Semper Fi.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 13, 4-8pm at Salas Brothers in Modesto.
