Rosie Lee Young was granted her angel wings October 7, 2015. She passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side and her final days were spent surrounded by family, friends and her church community. Services and celebration of her life will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 208 E. St. Anna, Stanton, Texas. Burial will immediately follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery. She was born on July 30, 1940 in Reagan, Texas to Charles Warren and Mae Lois Alexander. She attended Midland Carver High School, and later attended Howard College, Odessa College and Texas Tech University and received a college degree in early childhood education. She dedicated her life to educating young children and spent more than 35 years at the Martin County Head Start program. Here she helped to lay the educational foundation of more than 700 young minds. Rosie also worked at First United Methodist Church in the nursery and spent more than 35 years nurturing and loving many babies and toddlers who were entrusted in her care. An avid volunteer, Rosie was named as Woman of the Year in 2011 and also received the Civic Regonization Award; she was awarded for her compassion, courage, generosity, humility, integrity, kindness, respect, and service to those in her community. She volunteered a the Martin County Thrift Store and also serviced on the board for Stanton Housing Authority since 1992. She spent many years as a faithful member of St. James Baptist Church where she was an usher and sang in the choir. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending family reunions, traveling and, being out and about and active in her community. She is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Anna Lois Young; her brothers, Charles Paul Roberson and DeWayne Alexander; and her sister, Beverly Alexander. Those left to cherish her memories are daughters Loretta Thomason (Wade) of Austin, Texas, Marcie-Lene Young Vest (Justin) of Carson City, Nevada, and Kathy Young Poole (Rodney) Midland, Texas. She is lovingly known as Nana to Khallin Poole of Midland, and Alex and Zachary Thomason of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her brother Alvin Burgess (Shirley) of Midland; and by a sister Dorothy Mapp of Avondale, Arizona. Also left to cherish her memories is her Aunt Hallie Estelle of Waco, Texas; Uncle Arthur Alexander of Houston, Texas; and Aunt Helen Smith of Marlin, Texas. She had many special friends, including sisters-in-law, Winnett Brown, Shirley Burgess; and special cousin, Pauline Davis. She is Aunt Rosie to many nieces and nephews. Ms. Rosie has loved and cared for many generations of children. Her welcoming smile and beautiful laugher will live on in the hearts and minds of all the lives she touched. The family would like to extend an sincere appreciation to Dr. Cargill and his staff, Truelight Home Health Care, Home Hospice, and Salei Armendaez and Kathy Poole for their loving care. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.; the family will receive guests on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
