Funeral services for Nellie Rus, 86, of Pella, who died October 1, 1999 at the Pella Regional Health Center, were held October 4 at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella with Pastor Tom Dykstra and Pastor Sheldon Starkenburg officiating. Interment was in Forest Cemetry in Oskaloosa.
Nellie De Nooy, the daughter of John De Nooy, Sr. and Christina (Gonlag) De Nooy, was born August 19, 1913 near New Sharon. On February 20, 1935, she married Peter S. Rus.
For the first twenty years of their married life, they farmed in the Peoria - Lower Grove area. They moved to Oskaloosa where they lived for many years and were members of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. Nellie sang with various vocal groups, played the organ and attended Bible studies.
In addition to raising her family, Nellie worked part-time as a sales clerk for Graham's Department Store, Sybenga Studio, and Jaarsma's Bakery. In 1993 they moved to Pella and became members of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, living at Hilltop Manor North.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Peter S. Rus, and a sister, Johanna Boot.
Memorials may be given for Hospice of Pella or Hilltop North in Pella.
