Joseph Sneed Patterson, born April 21, 1933, in Knoxville, Tennessee, peacefully went home to permanently be with his Lord, Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Tennova North Medical Center at the age of 87.

He is survived by his daughters, Janice Patterson Sharp (Gary) and Kay Lynn Phipps (Richard); grandson, Jeremy Chad Sharp (Heather); granddaughters, Dana Gayle Fritts(Grayson), Kerri Buckner (Ben) and Jennifer Blankenship (Kenny); 13 great-grandchildren, Trystan, Samuel, Levi, Oliver (Ollie), Coleman, Holden, Brendan, Sean, Clare, Kaylynn, Jada, Sydney, Micah and Allie.

Joe was preceded in death by the love of his life, his loving wife of 59 years, Jewel (Judy) Mayes Patterson; parents, Jesse and Lyda Patterson; siblings, Charles Patterson and Katherine Patterson Brummett.

Joe was a strong Christian man, totally dedicated to his Lord and his precious family. He was an active member of North Acres Baptist Church, in which he faithfully served as an ordained deacon and head over the Lord's Supper Ministry. Not only did he work many years as a committed cross-country big rig driver for the trucking industry, he also volunteered his time with the Red Cross and the Knox Country Rescue Squad. Joe was certainly a stalwart in the Knoxville area, but was also known world-wide as an avid HAM Radio Operator, callsign WA4OKG, spending untold years, days and hours sharing his love, wit, unique humor and wisdom with hundreds of his fellow operators across the globe.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, at Woodlawn Cemetery in South Knoxville, officiated by Pastor William Purbis. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, PLEASE SEND MEMORIAL DONATIONS TO NORTH ACRES BAPTIST CHURCH, 5803 MILLETOWN PIKE, KNOXVILLE, TN 37924. Serving the family, Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway.
