Samuel Delvon Lowry, 92, of Grassy Meadows, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016, in the Meadow Garden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Rainelle, following a short illness.
Born March 2, 1923, at Grassy Meadows, he was the son of the late Samuel Clayborn and Alma Stevens Lowry.
Samuel was a retired electrician from Adams Construction Company in Roanoke, Virginia. He was a proud US Navy veteran, having served in WWII and a member of the Elton Community Church. Samuel loved to read his Bible; work puzzles and paint.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Julia Buckland Lowry; 2 daughters Sharon Fitzwater and Diane Boggess; 3 sisters Belva Halsey, Bertha Williams and Evelyn Gilkeson.
Survivors include his son James Lowry and wife Diana of Christiansburg, Virginia; 2 daughters Carol Williams and husband Russell of Frankford and Audrey Lowry of Grassy Meadows; 2 brothers Fred Lowry of Florida and Rodney Lowry of Ohio; 4 sisters Ermal Harris of Ohio, Virginia Wolfe of Ripley, Iris Laminteer of New Jersey and Verlene Henderson of Florida; 6 grandchildren J.W. Hamm, Melissa Hamm Richardson, Shawn Lowry, Daniel Lowry, Cody Zickafoose and Brooke Zickafoose; 8 great-grandchildren Rowan, Finn, Brittany, Isaac, Powered by: FuneralHomesWeb.com Julianna, Alexandria, Paisley and Jamison; and a host of extended family.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, in the Elton Community Church with Pastor Clay O'Dell officiating. Burial will follow in the McElhenney Cemetery at Grassy Meadows.
Friends may call one hour before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
