Muncie - Long-time Muncie resident Tom Selvey passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016, in Goshen Hospital. He was 87 years old. Tom lived life to the fullest and was never short on smiles, kind words or mischievous laughter with friends.



He was born on June 17, 1928 in Dunkirk, Indiana the son of James William Selvey and M. Irene (Campbell) Selvey. He graduated from Dunkirk High School where he was a starting forward for the Dunkirk Speedcats basketball team and president of his graduating class in 1947. He attended Ball State University for college.



His professional career began as a meat peddler in college. He worked for Al Pete Meats for 6 years. In 1957 he bought a local meat business and founded Muncie Meats. Tom operated and presided over Muncie Meats from 1957 until his retirement in 2007.



He married Rosalyn Huber Selvey in 1954. They were married 52 years and had two sons. Mr. Selvey split time between his main residence in Muncie and his beloved lake house at Lake Tippecanoe. He was an active member of the Muncie business and civic community as a member of the Muncie Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club, Moose Lodge, and Delaware Country Club as well as a strong supporter of Ball State University. He was also a member of the parish at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.



He was preceded in death by his wife Rosalyn; an infant daughter; his parents; his brothers, Richard and John Selvey; and sisters, Sarah Alice Duffy (Selvey) and Joan Ferrebee (Selvey).



He is survived by two sons, Kenton (and wife Julie-Anne) Selvey of New York City and Kevin Selvey of South Bend; two grandchildren, Roan Selvey and Greyson Selvey; and special friend Patty Hughes. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, caretakers, and colleagues.



Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.
