Laura Mae Simmons Hartman, 90, of Roanoke, beloved wife, mama, granny and great-gran, was given her wings on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Her Lord and Savior took her hand and ushered her into heaven to meet her parents, Ulys and Ruby Simmons, and Dottie Simmons; husband, Brandon Hartman; son, Thomas Hartman; son-in-law, Larry Flippo; brother, Everett Simmons; and many more loved ones.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jerry and Jane Hartman, Wanda Flippo, Wallace (Pete) and Alice Hartman, Sandy Calhoun, Ruby Ragland, Kathy and Mike Zimmerman; the light of her life were her eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond and Joyce Simmons, Larry and Molly Simmons; sister, Nina and Wayne Vandyke; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Simmons; also many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Laura was a lifetime member of Clearbrook Grace Brethren Church, where she attended every week until her health would no longer allow her to go. She loved working in the church and Sunday School, wherever she was needed. Also, a member of the Ogden Social Club for many years.
She loved working in her flowers, cooking, canning, and visiting with people. The wonderful Sunday dinners she cooked for years for her family, family that she loved beyond words. She had such a giving heart and spirit. She will be loved forever and missed so much by her family.
A celebration of Laura's life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Lotz Salem Chapel with Pastor Paul Sink officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013.
A special thank you for her guardian angel, Dr. Donald Steinweg, who always took time to listen to her and direct us in the path that we needed to go to take care of Mama. Also thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice. Special, special thanks to her beloved granddaughters who helped care for her, Kim, Dee and Ashley.
