Peggy L. McLemore

Funeral services for Peggy L. McLemore, 76, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Johnny Tims officiating.

Peggy McLemore has lived a life devoted to helping the citizens and youth of Grady County. She was born March 22, 1939 in Bradley, the daughter of Thomas “Hack” Howell and Mirrina Rosabel “Sis” (Wright) Howell. She passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2016 in Norman. Peggy resided on her farm in Ninnekah with her husband of 60 years, Leon.

Peggy was actively involved around the community and has been involved with many different organizations over the years. She owned and operated McLemore Tag Agency for 26 years.

She first started keeping books for the Fair Board in 1971 when she was working for Grady County Extension. She was eventually elected to the Fair Board in 1996 until her retirement in 2012. She was also appointed to the Grady County Election board from 1987-1990. She was instrumental in the historic election of 2000 when the citizens of Grady County passed ¼ cent sales tax to be directed to remodeling the Fair Grounds. Peggy was involved in the group that brought the Southwest District Livestock Show to Chickasha in 2001. Peggy was a founding member of the Cartel, which raised money for the Junior Livestock Show. She had also been a chairwoman of the Friends of the Junior Livestock Show.

She enjoyed raising livestock with her husband and spending time with her sons and their families.

She was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, Cell Howell, and a sister, Geraldine McKenzie.

Survivors are her husband, Leon McLemore; sons, Jerry McLemore and his wife, Mary Ann, of Ninnekah and Kent McLemore and his wife, Amy, of Bradley; granddaughter, Kara Yocham and her husband, Harlan, and their children, Finley, Raimey and Tripp; granddaughter, Mindy Walker and her husband, Cale, and their children, Mac and Lily; granddaughter, Kate McLemore of Bradley; granddaughter, Shelly Reeves and her husband, DJ and their children, Ali and Jesslyn; granddaughter, Ashley Rayburn and her husband, Sam, and their children, Ty, Cade, Lane and Holt; grandson, Chance McLemore and his wife Kaity; grandson, Chad McLemore; and other extended family and friends.

Services and interment in Alex Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
