Karen Wallace
(born Karen Jean Wurn)
9/10/1955 - 1/27/2016

The seemingly interminable final chapter of the all-too-brief story of the life of Karen Wallace ended Wednesday morning at 5:56 after an unbelievably courageous 32-month battle with breast cancer and various side issues.

She was born Karen Jean Wurn on September 10, 1955 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and grew up the fifth of eight children born to Lyle and Nancy Wurn.

Karen married, moved west and raised two children, Jonathan Edward Auvil and Christina Jo Auvil.

What needs to be said about Karen is this...if there was ever a more selfless, loyal, protective and loving mother, wife, sister or friend, I've never met her. Karen touched the hearts of virtually every person who she came in contact with. And she changed the lives of many, simply by being Karen.

In my life, I've never met anyone who was so...well, good is the only word. In the nearly two decades I spent with her, I've never, ever known Karen to intentionally hurt anyone's feelings or mistreat anyone in any way.

She loved music, and she loved to dance. Above all she loved her family. She loved her children and her siblings beyond words, but she also loved anyone else who loved her and treated her with respect...she was my wife and my best friend. My life will never be the same, or even close. But I'm a better person for having known her.

Karen was preceded in death by her father, Lyle and her mother, Nancy, and by her younger brother Michael Wurn and her brother-in-law, Charles Lane...all of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and by her son, Jonathan Edward Auvil, of Boise.

She is survived by her daughter, Christina Jo Auvil of Spokane, Washington, two stepsons, Joel and Ashton Wallace of Boise, her brothers David Wurn (married to Darleen) of Oshkosh, William Wurn of Phoenix, Arizona, and by her sisters (forever), Patricia Schuelke (married to Larry), Darlene Jo Lane, Joan Wurn and Lori Rainieri, all of Oshkosh.

Karen also leaves behind her husband, Mike Wallace, who considers it an honor to have been allowed to spend the past 18 years with a girl who defined the term "class act".

"Like magic, she dances again...pain-free and twirling in the twilight...shining that big, toothy ear-to-ear squinty-eyed grin, all tan and beautiful...happy once again. Dancing. And singing the words to every damned song!"

The family asks that in Karen's honor, you go out and find someone you love, and give him or her a big hug and a heartfelt "I love you"...it's one of the things Karen was best at. She'd enjoy it
