Clarence Ray Bennett, 90, of Ekron, KY passed away on February 6, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Battletown, KY on August 14, 1925 to Wordie and Mary Ruth Johnston Bennett.

He was preceded in death by both his parents and his brother, Andrew Melvin Bennett.

Ray attended Beechland School in Wolf Creek, KY and started working at an early age. He enlisted in the U. S. Merchant Marines in 1945 serving until 1948 and traveled the world aboard a vessel making eleven trips across the Atlantic to the Mediterranean deployment area and two across the Pacific to Hawaii during the final stages of World War II. After his period of service, he returned to Meade County, married Marian Frances Williams on February 25, 1950, who he had met through a family introduction, and settled down to be a farmer and raise two daughters. He was not a person to have only one job or project so he also worked full time in the construction field for several companies including the Al J Schneider Company in Louisville, of which he was particularly proud of his projects such as the Galt House Hotel and the Executive Inn.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marian Frances Williams Bennett; daughters Diane Lynn Bennett Medley (Gene); Karen Frances Bennett Prather (Tony), both of Ekron, KY; grandchildren: Rachel Medley Corum (Jim) of Brentwood, TN, Eugene Medley (Kim) of Elizabethtown, KY, Robert Prather of Gainesville, FL, Melanie Prather Crady (Jeff) of Sonora, KY; Leah Medley of Louisville, KY and Rebekah Medley Doran (Evan) of Santa Monica, CA; and seven great-grandchildren ranging in age from 2 to 10.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Buck Grove Baptist Church, 255 Buck Grove Rd, Ekron, KY 40117. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and at the church on Wednesday from noon to 2:00. Burial will be in the Buck Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
