Antonio Zerbone, 84, for many years Portuguese vice-consul in this city, died Jan. 4 at his home at 190 Acushnet Avenue. Born in Corvo, Azores, on Aug 4, 1832, Mr Zerborne had resided here since 1875 and became the first person to hold consular rank - serving until the office was transferred to Boston around 1900. Prior to his appointment, Portuguese affairs here had been handle by John F Tucker, a prominent merchant. A goldsmith, Mr Zerborne was fluent in several languages. His death was attributed to the shock of learning of the death of his son, Richard, a day earlier.
