The Glasgow Herald, Tuesday, May 21st., 1918. Death notice:-
"MACFARLAN.- At Bridgend, Callander, on 19th inst., Alexander Norman Macfarlan, son of the late Captain Andrew Macfarlan, 91st Regiment of Foot.- Funeral to Arrochar Churchyard on Wednesday, 22nd inst., leaving Callander at 10 a.m., arriving Arrochar about 1 o'clock."

The Glasgow Herald, Wednesday,May 22nd., 1918 (page 7 - General Scottish News):- "A well-known and interesting personality passed away in Callander on Sunday evening in the person of Mr Alexander Norman Macfarlan at the age of 77 years. "Norman," the name by which he was universally known, was the son of the late Captain Andrew Macfarlan, a soldier of distinction, who fought under Sir John Moore at Corunna. A man of unconventional habits and original outlook, Mr Macfarlan had been a picturesque figure in the Callander district for more than half a century."
