He was born in New Riegel, July 28, 1847, to John B. and Theresa (Kelbley) Elchert. In 1871, he married Bertha Williams in New Riegel. Seven children were born to this union. His first wife preceded him in death, and he then married Mary Ann Buchanan, who also preceded him in death.
Three daughters and four sons survived: Mrs. Charles Long and Mrs. Leo Trause of Berwick; Mrs. Arnold Trause of Bucyrus; Robert Elchert of Tiffin; Leo Elchert of Bascom; Joseph Elchert and Roy Elchert at home; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Williams of New Riegel; and Mrs. Roy Wiliiams of Tiffin; and two brothers, Andrew Elchert and Oliver Elchert, both of New Riegel.
Mr. Elchert was a life long member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 9 a.m., Friday, September 13, 1929, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Interment was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
