Dennis was born in Urbana on Sept. 7, 1948 to Marshall E. Simmons Sr. and Frances Pauline Moody Simmons. They preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death were his wife, Diana Slade Simmons; two brothers, Marshall E. Simmons Jr. and Douglas Scott Simmons and a niece, Trina Sue.
He is survived by brothers, Ron (Andrea) Simmons and Kenny (Ella) Simmons; his sister, Marsha (Jerry Johnson) Ward and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis was a graduate of Central High School, Champaign. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force.
He worked as a plumber for over 35 years, owning his own business and was a member of the Plumbers Local No. 149 as well as the Corvette Club of America and the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Dennis was an avid NASCAR fan; he enjoyed rooting on the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He was also a collector of American Eagle merchandise and memorabilia.
