November 02, 1917 - February 05, 2016

RAPID CITY/Pauline F. Meister, 98, passed away on Fri., February 5, 2016 at Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice House.

Pauline was born on November 2, 1917 on a farm in rural Stanley County, SD to Emil and Lulu (Burrus) Schiesser. She attended country school through eighth grade, and then worked for a while before having the opportunity to receive room and board while attending Rapid City High School, graduating in three years by taking summer school.

During her last year of school her sister introduced her to Arthur Meister, who was working at a lumber mill. She married Art on August 2, 1941 in Rapid City. He left shortly after our entry into WWII and was stationed in North Africa. Their first child was almost three when Art returned home from the war. Art took a job at the Post Office in Rapid City and Pauline was a homemaker until their daughter was in junior high. Pauline then began working in food services for the Rapid City School District, first at South Junior High and then at Rapid City High School as manager of food services, retiring in 1977. She continued to live on Franklin Street until 2012 when she moved to Echo Ridge where she made lots of friends.

Pauline was a member of the Cathedral, St. Cecilia Circle, lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, volunteer at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Canyon Lake Senior Center and Minneluzahan Senior Center, former member of Green Thumb and Rapid City Garden Club, life member of Good Sams International Chapter (travel club), and the 1958 State President of Postal Clerk's Auxiliary.

Most important were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; walking at the mall with The Breakfast Walkers; bus trips and square dancing with her husband; hand quilting, especially for family; and gardening.

Pauline is survived by her two sons; her daughter; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art in 1998; two brothers, Hollis and Theodore Schiesser; and her sister, Alice Huston.

Visitation will be from 5-7pm Mon., Feb. 8 with a 7pm Prayer Service at Kirk Funeral Home, and then viewing at the church for one hour before services.

Mass of Christian Burial is set for 10am Tues., Feb. 9 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City with Father Michel Mulloy as celebrant. A reception and luncheon will follow at the church, with interment at 1pm at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
