WOODBURY — Matthew William Huff, 24, of Pilgrim Trail, died unexpectedly on Feb. 3, 2016.

Matthew attended Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury and Hamden Hall in New Haven. He excelled in baseball and football and was a beautiful graceful athlete. He attended Morovian College in Bethlehem, Pa.

A high-energy optimist who was a voracious reader of Eastern religions, he wrote poetry and loved the outdoors. He worked so hard and was so sensitive a person that it made life difficult sometimes. He worked at Brooks Landscaping and Splash Car Wash.

He will never be forgotten by his family.

He is survived by his mother Karen of New Haven; his father Bill of Woodbury; his brother Sean of Woodbury; his sister Emily of Chicago, Ill.; his paternal grandparents, Russell B. and Josephine of Woodbury; his maternal grandfather, Santo of Estro, Fla.; uncles Russell C. of Woodbury, Brian F. of New Orleans; and a cousin Kelly of Oxford.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Pauline.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be held in the New North Cemetery, Woodbury, in the spring.
