Born in Bronxville, NY on May 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Elliott and Abigail (Schaulf) Shaw. After serving in the US Army in World War II, where he received the Bronze Star for "meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy", he received a BA in English from Williams College in 1948. He married Filomena "Fanny" Caldarelli in Amenia, NY on November 22, 1952. They resided in Amenia until 1959 when they moved to Pawling; Fanny predeceased Sandy in 2006.
Sandy worked as an editor at the Harlem Valley Times, and as branch manager for the National Bank of Pawling, until his retirement in 1985. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed many years of fishing and hunting in the Adirondack Mountains. His witty sense of humor and his kindness will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Sandy is survived by his son, Elliott (Joe) Shaw of Sherman, CT; two daughters, Abigail Shaw of Woodbury, CT and Filly Meunier of Kent, CT; two granddaughters, Amanda Shaw of White Plains, NY and Kaila Shaw of Naugatuck, CT; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private, under the direction of the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY.
