Ruth Dykes Kitchen, born December 18, 1922 and passed away June 18, 2011. Nana will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a devoted wife to the late James Remer Kitchen, Jr., a nurturing mother and mother-in-law to Jim and Nancy Kitchen of Columbia, TN., Kaye and Ron Knox of Brentwood, TN., Kris and Tom Turner of Anderson, SC., and Kathy and Bryan Oliver of Birmingham, AL., an extraordinary grandmother to Kathy Knox Pierson and Mike Pierson, David and Rachel Knox, Julie Knox McLean and Matt McLean, Jim and Maureen Kitchen, Ryan and Michelle Kitchen, Brent and Roberta Turner, Erin Turner Shelton and Jon Shelton, Jamie and Kelly Oliver, and great grandmother to Hailey and Tate Pierson, Dawson, Luke, and Lucy James Knox, Anna Kate, Knox, and McKenna Kaye McLean, Colby, Maren, and Truitt Kitchen, Lila Turner, and Eric Shelton. Nana will leave a void in all our lives. She was the daughter of the deceased Major and Cora Dykes, and the sister of the deceased Jule Dykes. She is survived by her loving sisters Corene Dugger, Polly Merritt, and Bess and Don Timmerman. We remember Nana for her devotion to her Savior and family. She was "Nana" to many people beyond her family as she touched their lives with Christian love. The family would like to thank Yvonne Warner and Darlyne Breedlove for the compassionate care they gave Nana the last year of her life. A celebration of her life will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 11am. Visitation will be held at 10am prior to the service in the Cheek House at the church.
