Portsmouth - Otis Jennings Griffin, 85, peacefully departed this life on May 12, 2014. He was born in Gaston County, N.C. on November 6, 1928 and later moved to Virginia with the love of his life, wife and friend, Mary Elizabeth Griffin. They were married almost 60 years in a union that was an inspiration. He cherished and loved his family and the many family gatherings. He also loved fishing, golf and traveling.
He leaves behind to treasure many wonderful memories his son Mike Griffin and wife Shona; daughter Sherry McCormick and husband Dana; grandchildren David, Kevin, Lindsey and Lorey; great-grandchildren Chelsea, Riley, Ashton, Holden and D.J.; and one great-great-grandson, Jason.
He will long be remembered for his kindness, sensitivity and love for the outdoors.
A celebration of his life will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by Rev. Doug Ellenberger. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
