An Old Citizen Dies
The death of Mr. Simon Menger, at the age of 84 years, occurred yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his residence, No. 15 Hildalgo Street, la grippe and old age are the cause of death. Deceased was one of our oldest citizens, a native of Alsace, Germany, and was one of the Castro Colony which settled at Castroville. Three sons, Simon, Rudolph and Eric, and one daughter survive him.

Simon and Augusta (Schoeniger) Menger were both natives of Prussia but are now deceased. They came to America and located at New Braunfels, Texas, in 1846, residing there for two years, after which they removed to San Antonio. The father, who was born June 6, 1807, passed away in this city May 1, 1892. In his native country he was a school teacher and professor of music and he continued to devote his time to instruction in music after locating in San Antonio.
