Violet M. Mattix, 90, died Feb. 5, 2016 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born Oct. 25, 1925 at El Dorado, the daughter of Joseph Tomlinson and Myrtle Delilah (Hansen) Locke. She married Marion C. Mattix Aug. 25, 1947 at El Dorado. He died Feb. 13, 1999. She worked for Triangle Drug Store, Family Pharmacy and Medical Park Pharmacy, from 1976 until retiring in 1995. Mrs. Mattix was a Great Bend resident since 1973 coming from Ellinwood and Ness City.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Great Bend. She enjoyed sewing, hand-quilting and embroidery work.

Survivors include a son, Steven Mattix and his wife Linda, Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Linda Jerke and her husband Harlen, Great Bend; and Carolyn Debes and her husband Bernard, Clyde, Kan.; a sister, Fern Lucas, El Dorado, Kan.; six grandchildren, Andrew Debes and his wife Anne, Cynthia Debes and her husband Joe Horan, Aaron Debes and his wife Tanna, Alex Debes, David Mattix and Emily Mattix; and seven great-grandchildren, Lauren Debes, Sophie Debes, Jack Debes, Violet Rose Horan Debes, Emrie Debes, Adelaide Debes and Meredith Mattix.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Locke, and three sisters, Opal Ellis, Dorothy Willhite and Betty Ledbetter.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m., Monday at Sunset Lawns Cemetery, El Dorado. Friends may call from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to First United Methodist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
