Human Rights Activist. Born in Kosice (original name: Schalkház). She studied in her hometown till 1917, when she finished the training-college. After the first world war she worked as a school-teacher for one semester. From 1919 she worked as a journalist and in the 1920's published novels about the life of Hungarian minorities. She wrote several poems and novels in religious topics also. One of his dramas was performed in 1944 in Budapest as a part of the national ceremony of the canonization of Saint Margharet. Her works were published again in the 1990's by catholic publsihing houses. In 1928 she joined the Society of the Sisters of Social Service in Hungary. Her main working places: Kosice, Komarno, Budapest. She was the leader of several catholic civil societies serving the education of women. During the second world war, she was the leader of a worker's hostel in Budapest. This hostel was the final refuge of hundreds of Jewish children and women when Hungary was attacked by the Nazis. On 27 December 1944 Nazis attacked the hostel and arrested the responsible leader of the institute, Sára Salkházi. She was executed on the Danube dock on the same day. After the war, she has been recognized as Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem. Her name can be found in the Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations in Jerusalem. On September 17, 2006, her beatification was canonized by pope Benedict XVI.
