Mexican and Civil War Veteran. Served 12th US Inf. in Mexican War and in Civil War enlisted Sept. 1863 in Co. H, Ark. Cav., discharged Aug. 1865. (from family records
____________

He was the son of Richard D. and Sarah Ann Bernard Statham. He married Elizabeth Ann Miller on Sept. 3, 1868. Their children were Saprhonia, Joseph M., and Laura E. Statham. He is said to have later married Frances C. Bloodworth and their children were Albert H., Nancy, Asa H., Cain, John, Almira and Mary A. Statham. Frances is also said to be buried at Elmwood, but a headstone hasn't been located as of yet.
_______________

Sergeant Statham first saw service in the 12th U.S. Infantry during the Mexican War of 1848. During the Civil War, he enlisted Sept. 22, 1863 in Co. H, Second Arkansas Cavalry, and was discharged at Memphis, TN on Aug. 20, 1865.
_______________

I believe that Frances Bloodworth was George's first wife, rather than his 2nd, as she appears with him in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. George also predeceased Elizabeth Miller.
