Barbara was born in Bartlett, Iowa, a town so tiny it's no longer in existence. After 2 brief marriages, Barbara married Lonen C. Curtis. They were married in 1956 by a Justice of the Peace in Idaho City and the two celebrated at the bar next door, although she was never fond of alcohol. She worked as a bookkeeper for Sears for many years and at several different stores. She retired just a little early to follow Lon on his adventures, moving frequently throughout 5 different states. They traveled the United States seeking Levi jeans and other treasures at yard sales and thrift stores. She was a fearless driver and once, on a trip to Iowa to visit family, she was caught going 90 mph on the freeway - at age 79!
