Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 6th, at St. Joseph Church, Key West, with Rev. Scott Boone officiating. Entombment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, February 5th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where a wake service will be held at 4:00 p.m.
She was born on December 4, 1924, in Cascade, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Matilda (Takes) Breitbach. She married LeRoy W. Burkart on November 19, 1947, at St. Martin's in Cascade, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1996.
Marguerite and LeRoy co-managed St. Vincent de Paul Store on Iowa Street, and in 1976, she opened D & D What Not, her craft store. Throughout her life she was very active, enjoyed her many walks and her crafts. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her five children, Linda (Richard) Althaus, Joyce (Roger) Voss, Carol (David) Burkart-Orr, Dave (Deb) Burkart and Dan (Donna) Burkart, all of Dubuque; twenty grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren; and her sister Vi Hackbarth, of Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Eldon and Clarence "Shorty"; and two sisters, Annabelle and Leona.
