Mr. Curtis was a mechanic and a member of Confidence Advent Christian Church. He was also a United States Army Veteran. Fred had a passion for old cars and tractors and was considered very knowledgeable on them. Fred loved mentoring children in the community and sharing his passion of old cars and tractors with them. He loved to have large gardens and enjoyed sharing the fruits of that garden with friends and neighbors.
In 2009, Fred became a licensed minister through the Piedmont Conference of the Advent Christian Church. He loved to share God’s word and teach Sunday school at his church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen “Penny” Cook Curtis; one son, Rick Curtis and wife Trina of Lenoir; three daughters, Lori Harmon and husband Butch, Julia Curtis and Rebecca Curtis, all of Lenoir; two brothers, Ralph Curtis and wife Sandra of Lenoir and John Curtis and wife Gail of Burke County; one sister, Thelma Losier and husband Andy of North Augusta, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Jacob Courtner and Elijah Denman.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Confidence Advent Christian Church conducted by Rev. Norman Sherwood. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by Caldwell County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Stacy Pennell, Johnathan Curtis, Mike Burns, Gary Spears, Larry Shatley, Joey Wingler, Richard Edwards and Benny Hartley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Church and Brent Hartley.
