Charles D. Osborne, who died at age 72, was a third generation Mayor of Auburn, elected to that office in 1931 and 1937. He was the son of famed prison reformer Thomas Mott Osborne and the former Alice Devens, a Boston socialite. His father had previously served as mayor 1903-1905, as did his manufacturer grandfather, David M. Osborne 1879-1880. A member of a distinguished American family, Mayor Osborne's paternal grandmother was Eliza Wright Osborne, a leader in the Women's Suffrage Movement, and his younger brother, Lithgow, a noted diplomat who served as U.S. Ambassador to Norway.
