Doug was born Nov. 2, 1952, in Waterbury, the son of Frances (Kirouac) Burke and the late George Burke. He spent many years working as a park ranger for the Connecticut DEEP at Black Rock and Sleeping Giant state parks and also worked as a bus driver for New Britain Transportation.
Doug loved nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors - hiking, hunting, kayaking and fishing. He loved his motorcycle rides and enjoyed traveling. What Doug enjoyed the very most was spending time with his family gathered around the table, playing cards after a Saturday meal.
Besides his wife, Michele, of 33 years, and his mother, Frances, of Wolcott, Doug is survived by his sisters, Sharon of Massachusetts, Peggy of Waterbury, and Frances and her husband, Ken, of Wolcott. In addition, he leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Burke will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St. at Southmayd Road, Waterbury, to Saint Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St., Waterbury, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Doug's family from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Doug's memory, donations can be made to: Saint Jude's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
