Ron had been a supervisor at Consol Coal Mine at the Rend Lake mine.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Ron loved to fish and deer hunt, but mostly he loved spending time with his grandkids. He was a Little League coach and a member of Tamaroa Masonic Lodge.
He was born Jan. 24, 1946, in Du Quoin, the son of Mack Edgar and Margaret (Beard) Ward. He married Sandra Brocaille on July 15, 1966, in Elizabethtown, and she survives.
Survivors include his wife of Vergennes; daughter, Amy Doerr and husband, Jason, of Murphysboro; four grandchildren, Taylor Franklin of Du Quoin and Connor Doerr, Logan Doerr and Brady Doerr, all of Murphysboro; two great-grandchildren, Zoey Harris and Ruby Franklin, both of Du Quoin; four brothers, Kenneth Ward and wife, Reiko, of Seabeck, Washington, Harold Ward and wife, Patti, of Texaco, David Ward and wife, Candy, of Whittington and Dale Ward and wife, Vickie, of Akin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, William Ward.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, in Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Brother Jerry Aken officiating. Burial will be in Tamaroa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale Cancer Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.
