Mr. Samuel Clayton Motley, Sr. died Friday April 11th, 1884, after a lingering illness of three weeks, at his residence in Lincoln County, Missouri, at the age of 84 years.

The remains were interred in the family graveyard on the 12th. He was conscious until death, and said that he was willing and ready to go.

He was a native of Virginia, where he married Susan Chattin at the age of twenty-six years. They raised twelve children, seven of whom survive them.

In 1844 he moved to Missouri, where he lived until death. He united with the Baptist Church at Sulpher Lick in 1846 and was baptized by Elder Lewis Duncan, who was then pastor. About fifteen years ago he moved his membership to Indian Creek Church, Pike County, Missouri.
