Samuel F. Tilden, 73, father of George W. Tilden of 1505 Eastern parkway, referee in the State basketball league, died yesterday morning at the home of his son of heart trouble which developed after a shock suffered about a year and a half ago. Mr. Tilden, prior to his illness, was a machinist employed in the General Electric works and had been with that concern about 20 years. The service, which will be private, will be held tomorrow afternoon and burial will be in Vale cemetery. For the convenience of friends the house will be open tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock. Mr. Tilden was born in Charlestown, Mass., the son of the late Samuel F. and Mehitabel Howland Tilden. He had been a sea captain for years and afterward went to Worcester, Mass., where he was employed with two large plants for a number of years. He came to this city about 22 years ago. He is survived by four sons - Samuel W. of Montreal, George W. of this city, Harry H. of New York and Fred S. of Montreal. There are also three sisters, Mrs. Allie Birerly and Mrs. Irving Mowry of Easton, Mass., and Mrs. Georgia Black of Beloit, Wis.
