John H. Thomsen, husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and friend, was born on December of 1937, in Coalinga, CA. He passed away on December of 2015, in El Cerrito, CA. John spent his childhood in Coalinga, and graduated from Coalinga Union High School in the venerable class of 1956. He attended Fresno State College receiving a bachelors and masters degrees and a "general secondary" teaching credential. In the fall of 1961, John took a teaching job at Albany High School where he taught industrial arts and other subjects to generations of students for 39 years. In December of 1961, he married his college sweetheart, Peggy Levora. They were married and lived in Albany, CA for more than 50 years. John was preceded in death by his father, Julius H. Thomsen in 1957; his mother, Virginia Thomsen- Olsen in 2004; his wife, Peggy Thomsen in 2014; and his daughter, Dianna Thomsen in 2002. John is survived by his sister and her husband, Kristin and George Reams of Lancaster, CA; his nephew and his wife, Brian and Sally Reams of Madera, CA; his son, Dr. Robert Thomsen and his fiancée, Dr. Michele Manahan of Baltimore; his son and daughter in-law, Jim and Beth Thomsen of Kensington, CA; and granddaughters, Kate, Georgia and Anna. A Memorial Service and Celebration of John's Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, 2407 Dana Street, Berkeley, CA 94704, on February 27, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Albany Education Foundation.
