Bessie Jean Ashley Austin, age 82, of Willie Austin Road, Blowing Rock, NC, died January 31, 2016 at home. She was born November 23, 1933 in Boone, NC. Jean was a nurses' aide and she especially enjoyed elder care.
She is survived by her four children, Debbie McNeil and husband, Douglas, Rev. Michael Austin and wife, Lynda, Melinda Schultz and Rev. Wes Austin and wife, Lisa; nine grandchildren, Joshua McNeil and wife, Kristel, Kelly Hollar and husband, Allen, Ashley Hollar and husband, David, Caleb Austin, Christopher Schultz and wife, Heather, Hannah Woods and husband, Lee, Jonah Austin, Andrew Austin and Emma Austin; five great-grandchildren, Tyler McNeil, Zachary McNeil, Alexis Woods, Baylee Woods and Harley Hollar; a sister, Judy Berry and husband Cecil; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, including special niece, Carol Black and special friend, Frederick Blackburn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. David Austin; two brothers, Fred and Greene Ashley; grandson, Jared Austin; and her parents, Spencer Tivius and Bessie Nelson Ashley.
A celebration of life service held at Deerfield United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Michael Austin and Rev. Wesley Austin. Graveside services will be private.
