Joan Marilyn Chandler, 83, of Cassopolis, MI formally of South Bend, Eagle Lake, Juno Lake and Tucson, AZ; succumbed to the cancer that she battled for many years on Thursday September 25, 2014 at her home. She was born May 17, 1931 in Michigan City, IN to Ray & Mabel (Ritchie) Voitel. On Feb. 14, 1953 in South bend she married Richard W. Chandler. He survives along with four children, Heather Hastings of Elkhart, Bruce (Diane) Chandler of Fishers, IN, Heidi (Steve) Kline of Middlebury, Gill Chandler of Mishawaka; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and two brothers, Duane (Rhonda) Voitel of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Dale Voitel of Navarre, FL. Joan came from a long family of clergy and became a devoted Christian herself. She was a previous member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in South Bend and a current member of Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church. Other memberships included Yesterday’s Children of Michiana Doll Club and the Edwardsburg Lioness Ladies Club. In her spare time she liked to reminisce about many different cultures that she had experienced during her worldly travels Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Edwardsburg, 68961 Lake Street, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:15 a.m. Pastor Scott Scheel will preside. Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be given to the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.
