Services Set for Ex-Tulsa Fire Marshal
George Parks Askew, 73, former Tulsa fire marshal and founder of a Tulsa Fire Protection Firm, died here Saturday.
Askew, served as the city's fire marshal from 1942-1950. He had served with the Tulsa Fire Department for more than 20 years before being appointed marshal.
He founded the A&A Fire Protection Company here in 1953 and headed the firm until 1972, when he retired.
He was a former secretary - treasurer of the Firefighters Credit Union and a former president of the Oklahoma Firefighters Association. He also was a candidate for Tulsa Police and Fire Commissioner in 1952. Askew had been an associate member of the Tulsa Chapter, American Society of Safety Engineers. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
Before joining the Tulsa Fire Department, Askew worked for the Tulsa Street Railway and Oklahoma Natural Gas Company.
Survivors include his wife, Frances, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Kathryne McSherry and Mrs. Eleanor JoLynn Kirby, both of Tulsa; two sons, Bryant and Dennis Askew, both of Tulsa; one brother, A.C. Askew, Tulsa; two sisters, Mrs. H.G. Sherouse of Valdosta, GA; and Mrs. R.E. Minter of Happeville, GA; 12 grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Fitzgerald's Ivy Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Tulsa, OK.
