Lillian V. Kohler Portsmouth - Lillian Virginia Kohler, 96, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Born October 17, 1918, she survived nearly being killed in a school bus accident as an 8th grader and survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 as she stood dockside waiting for a ship to arrive. She lived in South Fairview Heights during the 1950's, 60's and 70's where many of the neighborhood kids called her their "second mom". Mrs. Kohler was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Hugo Franklin Kohler, USN Ret.; parents, Arthur and Annie Ellis; sister, Jean Barbour; brothers, Arthur Ellis, Jr., Ocie Ellis, Oscar Lee Ellis and William Earl Ellis, Sr.; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Short. Survivors include a son, Dean Kohler, Sr. (Catherine); a daughter, Mary Warrington (Thomas); brother, Royce Ellis; sisters, Evelyn Banks and Ruth Kay; grandsons, Dennis Warrington (Autumn), Dean Kohler, Jr. (Mirren) and Adam Kohler; granddaughters, Wendy Warrington Mezzenga (James), Jaime Kohler Lyle, Meredith Kohler and Beth Brady; great-grandsons, Daniel Short III, Logan Lyle, Cody Warrington, Dean Kohler III and Hunter Brady; great-granddaughters, Rachael Short Allman (Josh), Brooklyn Lyle, Peyton Brady and Reagan Brady; a great-great-granddaughter, Dixie Short and many nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 21, in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Tommy Larson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
