Richard L. Burds, age 82, of Dubuque, IA, was called home at 5:55 a.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Luther Manor. To honor Richard's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 2001 Saint Joseph Street, with Rev. Gabriel C. Anderson officiating. To celebrate Richard's life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 7:30 p.m. Entombment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum.
Dick was born on March 16, 1933, in Placid, IA, son of Frank C. and Nellie T. (Trilk-Wilkinson) Burds.
Dick worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 32 years before he retired in 1992. Dick married Madonna M. Grant on October 1, 1955. They were blessed with 42 years together before she was called home on October 18, 1997. Dick found love again and married Carmen Myhre on August 25, 2001. Dick enjoyed working with his hands and was considered a finish wood craftsman by many. Dick was a longtime member of the Church of the Nativity and later, St. Joseph the Worker Church and volunteered many years to the Cub Scout Troop #10 as his boys were being raised. Dick was a dedicated family man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
