Fernando Kester, Sarah Kester, son Herbert, and daughter Mary Anna were traveling to Danville from their farm in a wagon on Apr 7, 1873. They were attempting to cross the Stony River which was described by the newspaper as having a "rapid and much swollen current." The wagon came uncoupled in the middle of the stream and all four were thrown into the water. Fernando, Sarah and Herbert were rescued, but Mary Anna was swept away by the current. Her body was found several days later and on Apr 17, 1873, she was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, in a lot near where her great grandmother, Abigail Bennett Kester was buried the year before.
