Woodward was the second of Ernest Junior & Mary Bennett (Heard) Altgelt's four children.

He married Stacy Adkisson in San Antonio on July 29, 1921. News about their marriage, with a photo of Stacy, was published in the San Antonio Light on August 7, 1921.

"Mrs. Woodward W. Altgelt was before her marriage Friday evening, July 29, Miss Stacy Adkisson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J.E. Adkisson of this city. The marriage took place at the home of Rev. Hugh McLellan with about six friends of the young couple present. Mr. and Mrs. Altgelt are at home with Mrs. Altgelt's parents, 1020 West Woodlawn Avenue."

Stacy gave birth to three children: Woodward Woodson born August 5, 1922; James Ernest on October 6, 1924, & Frances Ann on September 2, 1928.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodward Altgelt returned last week from a trip to New York and other points of interest In the East. They visited also in Chicago, as guests of their brother E. J. Altgelt."

Woodward, who was well known throughout the community, had a successful career. His health started failing eight years before his death when he coped with Arteriosclerosis. Three years later he had developed high blood pressure. During the last three months of his life he had Congestive Heart Failure, which caused his death at 7:45 a.m. on July 21, 1974. He & Stacy were living at 7709 Broadway Street in San Antonio at this time. He was 71 years old. Burial was two days later.
