ODESSA Esther Mae Thompson Gray, age 82, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, left this earth on June 6, 2015 to be with our Heavenly Father following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 9, 2015. Funeral Services will on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Ronnie Crumpton officiating.

She was born on November 18, 1932 to Darvin Ezekiel Thompson and Bernice Minyard Thompson in Odessa, TX. She married Paul Tex. Gray on June 11, 1950. Esther graduated from Odessa High School in 1950. She was on the Drill Squad and always spoke fondly of those memories. She was a stay at home mom. Her many talents included sewing for her daughters and her mother, and making patchwork quilts with beautiful needlework. She volunteered to teach many women how to sew and quilt at Interfaith Church Group for several years. She got immense pleasure in teaching these wonderful women. For many years, she walked for the March of Dimes. She also was a Girl Scout Leader. She loved movies and was an avid reader. We made many trips to the library with mom and came home with lots of books. She instilled the love of reading in us when we were young. Mom loved working in her yard and she made it a priority. Daddy built her a greenhouse and she would work in it almost every day. Her life was full, she was dear to her family, and we will miss her greatly.

Esther is preceded in death by her parents; Darvin and Bernice Thompson; husband, Paul Tex Gray; brother, Carroll Thompson; sisters Ruth Sant Barber and Roxie Wilson Patterson; and her great grandson, Cannon Lowell Crumpton.

Her pallbearers will be her seven grandsons.

We would like to thank Dr. Ralph Cepero and Dr. John Whitten of Odessa. Also, DDS. Kim Murray in Llano and Scott & White Hospice of Burnet County for the excellent care they provided for our mother.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. To send family condolences please visit our website at www.sunsetodessa.com.
