Retired Editor Dies In Hospital; Rites Tuesday


Funeral services for R. A. Alford of 3801 Parkwood Drive will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Wilkirson and Hatch Funeral Chapel. Rev. Urban A. Schulze, Rev. Connally Dugger, and Rev. Roy Cooper will officiate with burial in Waco Memorial Park.

Mr. Alford died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday in a Waco hospital.

Mr. Alford was editor of the Granger News for 42 years. He retired in 1945 and moved to Waco in 1950. He was a member of the Texas Press Association, the Woodmen of the World and the Odd Fellows in Granger.

He was a member of Herring Avenue Methodist Church.

Mr. Alford was born in Shelbyville and received his schooling there. He worked for the Timpson newspaper and then bought Leander newspaper and ran it until 1912 when he bought the Granger News.

He married Lelia Pickle June 6, 1904. He was the son of the late Dr. Albert S. Alford.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. A. F. McKinnis of 3624 West Brookview Drive and Miss Emma Lee Alford of 3601 Parkwood Drive; a brother, Albert S. Alford of Austin.
