Robert G. Sheffield, owner and operator of R.G. Sheffield, Inc., a tax and bookkeeping service, died Thursday at his home. He was 65 and lived at 141 Park Way, Camillus.
Mr. Sheffield was a longtime volunteer. He was the founder and first president of Western Area Volunteer Emergency Service and for years taught cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid at the American Red Cross. He was also a volunteer in the emergency room of Community-General Hospital.
Mr. Sheffield was a life resident of the Syracuse area. He lived in Camillus 26 years. Before operating his own business, he was employed as an accountant 21 years with Village Sales, Fayetteville. He was a member of the National Association of Tax Preparers.
Mr. Sheffield was a 1954 graduate of Syracuse University. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
He was a former leader of Boy Scout Troop 193 in Camillus. He was a member of the Camillus Ski Association and National Ski Patrol. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Camillus.
Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Nolan; two sons, Steven of Stillwater, Okla., and David of Diamond Bar, Calif.; two daughters, Diane and Susan Sheffield, both of Camillus; a sister, Darlene Richardson of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday at Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus, and 10:15 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, where a funeral mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Warners.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 5431 W. Genesee St.
