MRS. C. G. MATTHEWS

Mrs. Virginia Jeffries Matthews, 65, a resident of New Augusta for the past two years, died at 1:45 p.m. Friday at Methodist Hospital. She was a member of Poplar Flat Baptist Church in Winston County.

Services were to be held at 4:30 p.m. today at Hulett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Theodore Carroll and Rev. V. C. Windham officiating. Interment was to be in Roseland Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Matthews Is survived by her husband, C. G. Matthews; three daughters, Mrs. E. B. Clark of Star, Mrs. W. E. Hatten of Hattiesburg, and Mrs. W. M. Kemp of Jackson; a son, Joe Rhodes Jr. of Brandon; four sisters, Mrs. Les Clark of Abilene, Texas, Mrs. Calvin Rhodes of Louisville, Mrs. Edna Hagood of Birmingham, and Mrs. Tommy Robinson of Mattson; a brother, Homer C. Snow of St. Louis; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

I suspect her husband was Charles Goodwyn Matthews but have no concrete evidence. I found a likely obituary in the 21 Nov 1990 Hattiesburg American (below) and found the FAG memorial you created for Charles (53099401). But again, this is just a guess.

Richton -- Services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at New Augusta Cemetery in Perry County for Charles Matthews, 91, of Beaumont, who died Nov. 20, 1990 at Perry County General Hospital.
The Rev. Greg Clempts will officiate.
Mr. Matthews was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include one sister, Gladys H. Bonner of Meridian; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. today until service time. Jones Funeral Home in Richton is in charge of arrangements.
