Born in Buncombe County to the late George W. and Emma Lee Morgan Penley, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville where she was a member of the Basics Sunday school class and sang in the Jubilee Choir.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Carl "Sonny" Capps; three brothers, Vance Penley, George Penley, Jr., and William Penley, and three sisters, Elizabeth Lunsford, Joan Waldrop and Dorothy Williams.
Surviving is one sister, Suzie Nelon of Emporia, KS.and several nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held Saturday February 6, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Asheville. Rev. Vance Davis and Rev. Leah Brown will officiate.
The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
